Snow, fits, four girls & brunch.

Today was great, I got to do all of my favorite things, spend time with family, brunching with my girls, and shopping.  Add in one fabulous bloody mary (Lori's was bacon flavored?!?) and I was happy as a clam.

Are these not the saddest eyes you have ever seen?  This was taken after Annie threw a one hour fit b/c she didnt want to wear this sweater.  No one ever said everything here was fantastically perfect.  What a morning!

A walk with Grammy calmed her down.

The weather here has been NUTS.  The mountain behind my house had snow on it!  (Granted its only at the very tops of the hills but still, it's really not that high!)  I wonder if it snowed here in the middle of the night.  Bummer if it did and I missed it.  My mom says I should move to the boonies because the mountains, cows, and snow get me excited beyond belief.  I think I am in the perfect place because I get the mountains, snow, cows AND Neiman Marcus.  Ideal don't you think?

My parents and I.  You know before I had Annie a picture with just me would have been exciting to them ;-), now, it was just bait to get Annie to come over.

This was as close as we got to a good picture of them.  Oh Annie.

My girlsbrunch, brunch is a highly under celebrated meal time.  Although I am not sure this qualified as we ate it at 1, and other than a pancake we all at lunch food.  Except we had some great bloody marys.  (Rupal we missed you!)

Tonight is movie night.  The Social Network.  Can't wait!

Tomorrow we plan to work on the garage and next weekend we have some fun dinner parties to go to.  Enjoy the long weekend.

Grammy, Gramps and Annie

My parents came by this weekend for a visit. We have not stopped since they've been here! My mom brought amazing homemade chicken enchiladas, and, as a separate meal, braised short ribs.  It's been pouring here so much that there was snow on the foothills around the house!  The food was perfect for the cold weather.

Today we went to the mall,  Mommy and Grammy, and got mani-pedis at my salon.  Such a treat!  The boys stayed home and painted with Annie.  You will note the blue hair later on.

For dinner we went out to our favorite Chinese joint and Annie was well-behaved.  Afterwards, we took Annie to her very first 31 Flavors and got her an ice cream clown for dessert.  She loved it!  Pics are below as well.

A wonderful, family-filled weekend.  Feeling very content!

Annie, Adam and Gramps happily playing trains Friday night.

The boys adoring Annie.

Our girls! All so happy.

Mommy happy to have such a great family activity to do all together.  Everyone helped.

Annie was amazing with the frosting tubes.  I am so proud of her.

Completed sugar cookies!  So cute they deserved a silver platter!

Oh boy, my first ice cream cone from 31 Flavors! Score! Mint chip and looks like a clown to boot - did I just win the lottery?

Thanks Grammy! My first ice cream cone was yummy!

Books Books Books

I have been pretty relaxed (lazy) about writing my book recs lately, but I have been reading them.  Here is where I am since I last posted.

Of all of the books I read I would recommend Cutting for Stone and Killing Floor the most.  Although all were good reads.  I put the published descriptions of each below b/c I don't have the desire to write my own for each.  I will say that Cutting for Stone started slow, but ended up great, and Killing Floor was great for suspense and a guy would also enjoy it. I have to say that David Copperfield was a bit slow but it was a steady story that I found comfortable to get through, despite its length.

Cutting for Stone, Abraham Verghese
A sweeping, emotionally riveting first novel—an enthralling family saga of Africa and America, doctors and patients, exile and home.
Marion and Shiva Stone are twin brothers born of a secret union between a beautiful Indian nun and a brash British surgeon at a mission hospital in Addis Ababa. Orphaned by their mother’s death in childbirth and their father’s disappearance, bound together by a preternatural connection and a shared fascination with medicine, the twins come of age as Ethiopia hovers on the brink of revolution. Yet it will be love, not politics—their passion for the same woman—that will tear them apart and force Marion, fresh out of medical school, to flee his homeland. He makes his way to America, finding refuge in his work as an intern at an underfunded, overcrowded New York City hospital. When the past catches up to him—nearly destroying him—Marion must entrust his life to the two men he thought he trusted least in the world: the surgeon father who abandoned him and the brother who betrayed him.
An unforgettable journey into one man’s remarkable life, and an epic story about the power, intimacy, and curious beauty of the work of healing others.

David Copperfield, Dickens

Dickens’s favorite of all his novels, David Copperfield is the story of a boy who loses both parents at an early age, and who escapes the torture of working for his pitiless stepfather to make something of himself and, with any luck, find true happiness.

David Copperfield features an unforgettable gallery of characters, including David’s cruel stepfather Mr. Murdstone, the unctuous Uriah Heep, the amiable Mr. Micawber, whom Dickens based on his father, and Dora Spenglow, whom David marries and calls his “child-wife.” Written in the first person, David Copperfield is perhaps the most autobiographical of Dickens’s fictions. This new edition includes commentaries, discussion questions, and Phiz’s original illustrations.

Eye of the Needle, Ken Follett
An extraordinary World War II German agent with secret information about the Allied D-Day landing waits at an English lighthouse to be picked up by a submarine and becomes sidetracked by an affair with a paraplegic's wife.

Killing Floor, Lee Child
All is not well in Margrave, Georgia.
The sleepy, forgotten town hasn't seen a crime in decades, but within the span of three days it witnesses events that leave everyone stunned. An unidentified man is found beaten and shot to death on a lonely country road. The police chief and his wife are butchered on a quiet Sunday morning. Then a bank executive disappears from his home, leaving his keys on the table and his wife frozen with fear.
The easiest suspect is Jack Reacher - an outsider, a man just passing through. But Reacher is not just any drifter. He is a tough ex-military policeman, trained to think fast and act faster. He has lived with and hunted the worst: the hard men of the American military gone bad.
Outlander, Diana Gabaldon
Claire Randall is leading a double life. She has a husband in one century, and a lover in another...
In 1945, Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon—when she innocently touches a boulder in one of the ancient stone circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach—an "outlander"—in a Scotland torn by war and raiding border clans in the year of our Lord...1743.
Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire's destiny in soon inextricably intertwined with Clan MacKenzie and the forbidden Castle Leoch. She is catapulted without warning into the intrigues of lairds and spies that may threaten her life ...and shatter her heart. For here, James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, shows her a passion so fierce and a love so absolute that Claire becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire...and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

Happy Valentines Day

We hope everyone had a wonderful Valentines day. We were pretty mellow here. Adam made Tacos for Mommy and Annie and they were wonderful.

Annie got her very first rose from Daddy, and a Balloon. Mommy got her some sticker books and she got some FANTASTIC presents from Grams, Grammy and Gramps. Such a lucky girl!

Mommy is a lucky girl too because she got a necklace this week from Daddy that matches the very first piece of jewelry he ever brought me, a London Blue Topaz, I am smitten with it and it is very special to me.

Daddy got a Valentine from his girls because we love him with all of our hearts.  He also got the most amazing chocolate covered strawberry EVER.  Thanks Tricia!  (Lets face it, VDay is for girls)

Happy Valentines Day to all!
