Guess who's flight got canceled due do mechanical problems and is home until tomorrow morning?   Whhhhhooooo hoooooooo!

A (busy) day in the life of a 3 Day Weekend

Happy Memorial Day to everyone.  We tend to forget what the holiday is about as "service" men tend to be people we picture in black and white movies.  Well, those people should be in our thoughts but so should all of the men and women serving our country today.  My parents were on a flight home last week that was carrying a dead soldier and it was a huge reminder of all of the people we have out there protecting our country.  So to them, and to my grandparents and uncles who all served our country, Happy Memorial Day.

We woke up early and hit the Zoo.  It was perfect weather which was good given Saturday and today seem to be a bit cloudy out.  We got there before the Zoo opened so for the first half our walk through it felt like we had the whole zoo to ourselves. By the time we left there were cars backed up to the freeway.  Suckers ;-).

The boys.
The girls and their shades.

I love the look on Annie's face here as she strains to see the Siamangs in the tree.

Think if I kiss him he will become a prince?

Lets give it a go!

They had a huge fruit bat exhibit with huge fruit bats.  It takes a lot to freak me out.  But apparently spiders, roaches and bats will do the job.

The mighty croc.

Stopping for a snack.

Watching the giraffes have their snack.

Annie and Daddy are sad that Daddy has to go back to NYC.  Mommy is VERY sad as well.

The girls decided to hit up the choo choo train to check out the Australian exhibit.

I love little Annie's face here.

Next up, the Merry Go Round for Daddy and Annie.

Big Hugs.

This is a picture of a kid having fun!

After the Zoo we headed over to Blackhawk plaza for lunch and we ran into Christine, Jason and Jameson.  Annie played on the slide with J-man for a while.

Once home we decided to paint.  Annie decided that her body was a lot more fun to paint than her paper.  Mommy decided to let her.  It was a holiday after all.

Next up we made a huge and REALLY good meal.  We had Auntie Lori over to join us and it was just what a BBQ should have been.

All flowers picked from the back yard!

My mom made these great caramelized onion and gorgonzola cheese apps. I highly recommend them.

Mommy tried out a new Bobby Flay recipe for cajun shrimp.  We really liked it.  Definitely will make it again.  And they were very healthy.

Beautiful Prime Rib Eye Steaks. So yummy.

Mushrooms for the steak.

Grilled Vegetables.

Homemade Boysenberry Cobbler.

The whole package.  Ready to pop yet?  I am still full!

Vodka tonics all around!

Is this kid relaxed or what?

Got some great lanterns to hang for the umbrella.  We decided we needed a second one for sitting out around 5 so Adam said I could order the one that matches my pillows.  I am so excited for it to come!  Picture below.

This is a kid who likes her dessert!

Our neighbors Mark Jenny and the boys went to a farm that is nearby to pick fruit and brought us a huge box over.  Such great neighbors to think of us.

The icing on the weekend cake was that my mom and I got to hit up the nordys womens sale.  We split up when we got there and both, on our own, bought the same exact pair of TB shoes.  Think we share some taste?  They were a GREAT deal and the heel height is perfect.  How long will it take Mike at work to notice?  LOL.

We hope everyone had a great weekend.  I can't wait until the 4th of July!
