Okay guys, this is a reader. I started reading "Room" after a friend from High School had recommended it on Facebook. Room is the story of a little boy, Jack, just turned five, who has lived in an 11x11 room his entire life.
The entire story is told from his perspective. I don't want to go too much into the plot as the first half of the book has a good deal of suspense. You only have 3 main characters in the first half the book. Jack, Ma (we never find out her name) and Old Nick. Ma was kidnapped by Old Nick and had been in Room for 2 years before Jack was born and 7 years by the time we meet them. 7 years in an 11x11 room.
Jack thinks that everything he sees on the TV is pretend and the world is simply as big as the 11x11 world he lives in. The author did and AMAZING job writing an authentic voice for a child. Many things we all take for granted every day were questioned by Jack. What a fascinating world we must live in to an outsider.
The story was hopeful, unique, and a page turner. While the subject matter was often times a bit disturbing, overall I found it excellent.
